Perhaps unfolds in the late afternoon, when the heat begins to soften and the air feels suspended between day and night.

Stone walls still hold warmth from the sun. Nearby, baskets of peaches rest in the shade: ripe, velvety, just beginning to give under their own weight. The sweetness in the air isn’t bright or candied; it’s mellowed by warmth and time.
